c.    Responsibility

The University of Graz and the university DigLit Project Partners (University of Pécs and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), as joint controllers, take data protection very seriously and process the personal data of the participants to the project confidentially and in accordance with the legal regulations.

The schools in the respective country of a university project partner carry out data processing on behalf of the project. In particular, they will allow the university partners to access their resources (e.g. Moodle) and allow students to carry out their teaching activities.

This privacy statement is intended to inform students and guardians in accordance with Art 12 and 13 GDPR about the purpose, legal basis and about their rights in connection with the processing of personal data by the University of Graz and the university DigLit Project Partners.

d.    Data processing

Purposes and legal bases of data processing:

  • Use of the Digital Narrative or parts thereof for research purposes (demonstration to other persons in seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures and similar offline educational contexts as well as publication) based on the work use permission granted for this purpose (pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit b GDPR respectively pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit e GDPR in the case the basis for the processing is laid down by Member State law, i.e. in Italy by article 2-ter of Legislative Decree n. 196/2003 as amended.
  • Publication of the Digital Narrative on the websites of the university DigLit Project Partners and on the video portal “uniTUBE” on the basis of the consent granted for this purpose (pursuant to Art 6 (1) (a) [Art 9 (2) (a), if applicable] respectively pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit e GDPR in the case the basis for the processing is laid down by Member State law, i.e. in Italy by article 2-ter of Legislative Decree n. 196/2003 as amended.  ).
  • Publication of photographs for documentation purposes and public relations on websites of the university Project Partners, in offline and online publications, as well as on the website of the Narrative Didactics research group based on the consent given for this purpose (pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit a respectively pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit e GDPR in the case the basis for the processing is laid down by Member State law, i.e. in Italy by article 2-ter of Legislative Decree n. 196/2003 as amended
  • (Long-term) archiving of the digital narrative on the servers of the University of Graz to ensure good scientific practice in the legitimate or public interest (Art 6 para 1 lit f and e EU GDPR in conjunction with respective statute part of university or international standards to ensure good scientific practice)
  • Archiving of the consent forms on the servers of the University of Graz for evidence purposes of the granting of consent in the legitimate interest (pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit f EU GDPR respectively pursuant to Art 6 para 1 lit e GDPR in the case the basis for the processing is laid down by Member State law, i.e. in Italy by article 2-ter of Legislative Decree n. 196/2003 as amended) for the verifiable fulfillment of legal obligations or possible defense of legal claims.

Concerned types of data that will be published:

  • The digital narrative includes content data and audio and video components such as: voice, music, sound effects, images or video recordings.
  • Name. The publication of the name may be objected to in the declaration of consent to the use of the digital narrative (E1).
  • Personal data (e.g. appearance) in the context of photographs taken.

Types of data concerned that will not be published:

  • The declaration of consent additionally includes signature, email, telephone number and/or address, if provided. This data will not be published under any circumstances, but will only be kept as proof of consent.

e.    Affected group of persons: All persons who create a digital narrative. These are mainly students at school, university students and workshop participants.Storage period

Data related to you that we process on the basis of consent will remain stored until you revoke your consent. Beyond that, only absolutely necessary personal data will be stored for the purpose of proving your consent or revocation for a period of 3 years starting from the date of revocation.

In case of contract (Art 6 para 1 lit b EU GDPR or Art Art 6 para 1 lit e GDPR): We store your personal data as long as this is necessary for the fulfillment of the contract. Beyond that, we only store your data if legal retention periods exist for this or statutes of limitations regarding potential legal claims are open.

In case of legitimate/public interest (Art 6 para 1 lit f or e EU GDPR): We process your data as long as this is necessary due to the legitimate/public interest or until a (justified) objection is raised. In addition, we only store your data if there are legal retention periods or statutes of limitations regarding potential legal claims are open.

f.     Transfer of your data

Your personal data will be processed within the project and thus transmitted to all university DigLit Project Partners. The university Project Partners are located in Austria, Italy or Hungary.

g.    Your rights

In connection with the processing of your personal data, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access to the personal data concerned (Art 15 EU GDPR),
  • Right to rectification (Art 16 DS-GVO) or deletion (Art 17 EU GDPR) or to restriction of processing (Art 18 EU GDPR),
  • Right to data portability (Art 20 EU GDPR),
  • Right to object (Art 21 EU GDPR),
  • Right to withdraw consent (Art 7(3) EU GDPR), which does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out until the withdrawal,

In addition, there is the

  • right to lodge a complaint (Art 77 EU GDPR)

Generally, the data subject may exercise his or her rights in respect of and against each of the controllers, but the first contact point for data subjects is the university DigLit partner in whose country the data collection takes place (= place of the alleged infringement).
